Our 5,600 ha private game reserve is situated in the far north of South Africa, just south of the Limpopo River near Musina. Most hunters fly into O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg where they are met by us personally, and share a pleasant 5½ hours road trip to our game reserve. Alternatively, connecting flights from O.R. Tambo International Airport to Polokwane (about one hour's flight time) is available, from where the game reserve is a short 2 hours' drive away. Charter flights from Johannesburg to our neigbouring farm are also available. Email your flight details to info@riebeltonsafaris.co.za and we'll arrange your transfer.
Our hunting season runs from 15 March to 30 November. The area has a pleasant semi-desert climate with warm, sunny days and cool nights. April to October is the dry season, and May to July are the coolest months, with mornings around 5°C (41°F) and afternoons around 30°C (86°F). This is the most comfortable time for walking and stalking. November to March is hot and humid, with temperatures often above 40°C (104°F).
Hunters bringing their own rifle need a temporary firearm import permit from the South African Police Service, issued on arrival at the airport. These temporary import permists can also be obtained in advance from PHASA at additional cost. Email us at info@riebeltonsafaris.co.za well before your trip and we'll guide you through the paperwork, and advice you on the appropriate caliber for the animals intended to be hunted. Alternatively rental rifles are available.
Arrive walking fit, as most hunts are on foot. Pack comfortable wash-and-wear clothing in natural, non-reflective colours, and light boots with soft, quiet soles with as little tread as possible. Bring a warm layer for the cool to cold early mornings and evenings in winter. Mobile phones work on the reserve, and LTE data connection is available, when the network is up and running.
The area is classified as low-risk for malaria. Please ask your doctor before you travel. Basic medical supplies are kept in camp and every professional hunter carries a first-aid kit in the field. Modern medical facilities are 30 minutes away in Musina.
Choose between two lodges, each with its own character. Our main lodge, tucked away in a stand of indigenous bush, suits larger groups, with five two-bed rondavels, an open-sided dining room and kitchen, and four separate shower and toilet blocks. Our smaller, more private lodge lies at the foot of Leopard Hill, with two fully equipped en-suite rondavels, an enclosed dining room and kitchen, and a swimming pool. It takes a maximum of six guests and is ideal for individuals or a small family.

Our reserve lies in the savannah of the far north, a gently rolling mix of bushveld, dry riverbeds and quartzite hills, home to more than twenty indigenous game species and over forty indigenous tree species. Alongside buffalo, giraffe, eland, kudu and other plains game, you may see klipspringer, and if lucky, from time to time spotted hyena, cheetah, leopard and African wild dog. Our resident leopard roams the cave-studded sandstone hill that gives Leopard Hill its name, and is the symbol of Riebelton Safaris.
